New Server Move Delayed

An unforeseen complication is delaying the completion of our move to a new server. It will certainly not be up tonight. Monday would be good but Tuesday seems more likely. Thanks for your patience.

UPDATE: We're almost there. Some permissions problems on files need to be fixed. Hoping for a Thursday night re-opening.

So today is Friday, March 24 and I've been waiting to use questgarden after a workshop in Maine.

When is the expected completion?

It's Friday morning and Quest Garden STILL isn't up and running. I don't think you have any idea how many people are relying on it! My project for a college course was due on Wednesday, but I haven't been able to complete it because your site isn't up and running in a timely way. I've worked hard and long hours to get this finished and it is frustrating to not have it done. THIS is why older teachers don't use technology in their clasrooms . . . it is too unreliable! There are a couple of other teachers at my school site who are in the same boat.

In response to Cathy Crowell (who posted previously), it's a bit late now for this reminder, but a cardinal rule of using technology is BACKUP EVERYTHING. You really ought to keep a copy of all your text as .doc files, and you can even save HTML pages from the previews. Especially since the move was announced in advance, you could have taken the precaution at that time. If you had done that, you would have something to submit, even if it wasn't quite a true published WebQuest (yet). I think Bernie Dodge knows PRECISELY how many people rely on the site, which is why he recognized it needed to be moved to a larger, better server. I think he's entitled to every bit of patience we can afford him, especially as he provides this service entirely out of the goodness of his heart and the conviction that it is worthwhile.
